- 1980
Academy for Planning and Development was established initially as a development project of the Ministry of Planning. - 1981
APD started functioning and organized training activities in a very limited scale in a rented house in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. - 1984
Shifted and located in its own building at Nilkhet, Dhaka and transferred to revenue set-up of the government. - 1985
The Academy for Planning and Development was declared as “Corporate Body”. - 1986
The APD completed training of 1084 officers through 44 courses. - 1987
The APD started post graduate diploma in Development Planning course. - 1989
-NAPD started special foundation training courses for the officers of the BCS health cadre. - 1998
The APD completed training of 1026 officers through 47 courses. First introduced English Language Proficiency course. - 1999
The APD completed training of 1068 officers through 42 courses. - 2008
The APD completed training of 1055 participants in 2008 through 42 courses. - 2009
- Academy for Planning and Development (APD) renamed as National Academy for Planning and Development (NAPD)
- Academy floated its own website as www.napd.ac.bd - 2010
- NAPD Trained 1596 participants through 51 courses in 2009-10 calendar year. - 2011
- NAPD started 1 year PGDICT course
- 1615 Participants completed training in 2010-11 academic year through 55 courses.
- NAPD formed NAPD Alumni association - 2012
- 1664 Participants completed training in 2011-12 academic year through 60 courses. - 2013
- 2081 Participants completed training in 2012-13 academic year through 66 courses. - 2014
- 2669 Participants completed training in 2013-14 academic year through 99 courses.
-Started eGP.for procuring goods and works of NAPD - 2015
-Started software based training, library, store, dormitory and cafetaria management of NAPD. - 2016
- Academy floated The People's Republic of Bangladesh government(hosted at Bangladesh Computer Council) guided website as www.napd.gov.bd - 2019
-International conference at NAPD. - 2020
- Started e-Learning course at Muktopaath platform (http://muktopaath.gov.bd, completed two batches on Project Management and Appraisal Process) - 2021
- MoU has been signed between National Academy for Planning and Development (NAPD) and - International Malaysian education center @ university Malaysia Sarawak Kualalumpur learning center (IMEC@UNIMASLCKL), Malaysia.
- Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Educational Innovation and Technology (SEAMEOINNOTECH), Philippine.
- Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad, India
- Executive Centre for Development Programs (ECDP), Office of the Extension and Training (OET), Kasetsart University. Thailand
- The WB National University of Juridical Sciences, Bidhannagar, Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
- Police Staff College, Bangladesh
- NAPD has been assigned to ministry of public administration
